Gallery Application Guidelines
Standpoint Gallery is an independent, artist run project and exhibition space. Exhibitions are selected both from application and by invitation. We curate group shows, collaborate with external curators, show the work of individual artists, and host touring shows. Standpoint also administers and runs the Mark Tanner Sculpture Award and Exhibition, a yearly award now worth a total of £10,000 to an exceptional emerging sculptor from the Greater London area.
The gallery is funded through and an integral part of Standpoint Studios, a registered charity comprising 5 large studios providing creative workspace for 10-15 artists and makers, and an Youth Arts Studio, which houses the education and outreach programme focused on providing direct, high-quality art-making opportunities for the local community.
Core Aims
All income made by Standpoint Gallery is re-invested into the organisation in order to support its activities as a charity.
We welcome applications from artists. From 2008 we are changing the way we select shows - becoming more proactive in seeking out exciting emerging artists. As a result, we no longer require artists to submit a formal proposal. Instead please send us simple details of your practice, in the form outlined on the left.
As Standpoint Gallery receives no outside funding we enter into a partnership with exhibiting artists to fund the exhibition.
The Partnership:
The
artist/s are responsible for:
-All
costs involved in the making and presentation of artworks
-The delivery and installation, and the removal of work. Standpoint Gallery is able to offer technical support
by way of advice and some assistance.
- Publicity costs (typically £300 per show split between participants) to cover inclusion in listings and the production costs of private view invitation cards.
Standpoint requires a minimum
of 500 cards for mailing (making average print run 1000/1500

The gallery is responsible for:
-Design and production of publicity material which will be sent to art journals,
local/national press and freelance writers. The gallery will endeavour to
obtain inclusion of the exhibition in free listings columns in the art press
and local/national press. Due to funding limitations any paid advertising
must be placed and paid for by the artist/curator
-Mailout of 500 private view cards to supporters of Standpoint,
professional bodies and other galleries
-The gallery will handle all sales throughout the duration of the exhibition, the current commission charge of 35% is levied on all sales. Work should be for sale unless otherwise agreed.
The artist/curator and gallery will share the responsibility for:
-Standpoint provides invigilation cover for Wednesday - Friday (inclusive) of the exhibition. It is the artist/curator’s responsibility to provide cover for Saturday throughout the duration of the exhibition. (The gallery will provide invigilation for Sat only with prior notice and at a charge of £35.00)
-Private View. This will be overseen by the gallery. Either a free bar with drinks provided by sponsorship or a pay bar is organised by the gallery
-Education activities by way of practical workshops and gallery talks/seminars are a core part of Standpoint’s activity as a charity. Artists are obliged to deliver one talk/lead a workshop session as part of the exhibition agreement. This is decided in negotiation with the gallery who will organise the event.
