The Perfect Rest , 2006 |
Standpoint Gallery is pleased to present a new collection of paintings by artist Rebecca Scott. The canvases explore Scott’s roles as a woman, a painter, a mother, and a consumer in relation to lifestyle advertising.
The Perfect Place, 2005 |
Rebecca Scott is intrigued by desire and by the very human urge to strive for perfection, forever failing to attain it – an urge that the commercial world exploits mercilessly. In this exhibition she turns her attention to the way in which the everyday, domestic, anodyne objects found in lifestyle magazines and catalogues – glasses, crockery, bed linen – promise perfection and the satisfaction of desire to those who buy them. |
The Perfect Hostess, 2006 |
The painting is her personal act of possession. The more she paints; the emptier they become.

Mohair Delux, 2006 |
Scott translates the surface seduction of the glossy photographs to the canvas, applying the oil paints lavishly and with sensuality. In doing so, she interrogates the language of lifestyle promotion with the genre of still-life painting; thus, confronting her own desire through the lens of art. |
